Lisa Datz stars as “M’Lynn” in Steel Magnolias, July 23-31. The production will be her Casa Mañana debut! She is thrilled for audiences to see M’Lynn’s monologues and witty replies.
Although Lisa is of Russian and Belarusian descent, she hails from Chicago. “I’ve been cast as southern women quite a few times in recent years, which is a lot of fun!” She will connect with M’Lynn’s heart, humor and grace – even in the story’s pain and challenges.
When it comes to preparation, Lisa says, “I try to [prepare] out of sequence so that I don’t keep working on the same scenes over and over at the begging of the play and neglecting the later ones.” She continues, “I’ve been working in film and television in recent years, so I’ve gotten used to telling a story out of sequence.”
Now on to the fun part – her favorite hairstyle. “Ray Salazar has been my stylist for over a decade. And, I met Stephen Bowen more recently – he does incredible hair and makeup.” Take a look at Ray’s cut and color and Stephen’s styling – it’s stunning! You can find them on Instagram at @hair_by_raysalazar and @bowmanmakeup.
She needs help picking the name of her fictional beauty salon – Free to Be You and Me or Datz My Style. Join Lisa and her friends on stage July 23-31. Tickets are available here: https://casamanana.org/events/steelmagnolias/.
