Our highly qualified teaching artists will guide young performers through learning and rehearsing various musical theatre numbers. The spotlight classes will come together for a ticketed winter and spring performance on our Mainstage.

Spotlight All abilities

This class is designed specifically for youth and adults with special care needs or differences. Students will learn and rehearse various musical numbers. There will be winter and spring performances on the Mainstage.

• Acting Classes •

Acting 1

Beginner Class
Grades 3-5
Semester-long on Tuesdays at 5:30 -6:25 pm

Perfect for starting your journey as an actor OR younger students who are curious about theatre. Students will learn the Actor’s Tools (body, voice, imagination) and explore ways to tell stories, create characters and share creativity.

Acting 2

Intermediate Class
Grades 6+
Semester-long on Tuesdays at 6:30-7:25 pm

For students with some experience and familiarity with acting basics. Delves deeper into fundamentals, improvisation and physicality.

Acting 3

Advanced Class
By Instructor Approval Only
Semester-long on Mondays at 4:30-5:25 pm

Experienced students will explore more complex scenes, topics, different kinds of texts (verse, prose, etc.) and diverse styles.

Dance 1

Beginner Class
Grades 3-5
Semester-long on Tuesdays at 6:30-7:25 pm

Builds physical awareness and basic dance vocabulary. Begins with the essence of dance and movement: beat, feeling the music, awareness of body and space. Builds the foundations of ballet, jazz and other styles.

Dance 2

Intermediate Class
Grades 6+
Semester-long on Tuesdays at 5:30-6:25 pm

For students with some dance experience and familiarity with the terminology. Builds on basic skills with more complex floor work, higher expectations of body awareness and more complex styles.

Dance 3

Advanced Class
By Instructor Approval Only
Semester-long on Saturdays at 10-11:30 am

Former Radio City Rockette, Merrill West, teaches complex floor work in multiple styles. Includes warm-up, technique and body awareness. Open to college students or adults wanting to maintain skills.

• Voice Classes •

VOice 1

Beginner Class
Grades 3-5
Semester-long on Tuesdays at 4:30-5:25 pm

Great for students who want age-appropriate voice work in a supportive group setting. Students will explore the fundamentals of solo singing (breath, pitch, vowel, body awareness). Showcased in solos or duets.

Voice 2

Intermediate Class
Grades 6+
Semester-long on Tuesdays at 5:30-6:25 pm

For students with experience singing in choral or solo settings. Students will build range and volume, explore harmony, sing in different styles and gain a greater understanding of their developing voice.

• Creative Studios Classes •


Grades: Pre-K-Kindergarten
Semester-long on Mondays or 
Wednesdays at 4:30-5:15pm

Gives young artists the opportunity for imaginative play and guided creative narratives! Parents can join the Explorer’s Club as we open the Theatre in a Trunk to learn more about storytelling.

Creative adventures

Grades: 1-2
Semester-long on Mondays, Tuesdays or Wednesdays at 4:30-5:25 pm

Your child will explore the art of performance through a story of their own making on the historic Casa Mañana Mainstage.


Grades: Pre-K – 1
Semester-long on Tuesdays at
4:30-5:25 pm

In this dance class for our youngest movers, students will explore beat, rhythm, large and small motor skills and basic dance steps. The fun continues in this low-pressure environment.

• Apprentice Classes •


By Audition Only
Grades: 6-12
 Mondays from 5:30-8:30 pm
$1,200 per year

This auditioned class is for the most dedicated and focused young artists. A limited number of students will be accepted into this rigorous class taught by Penny Ayn Maas (TCU Theatre Faculty), James McQuillen (Director of Theatre for Youth) and Merrill West (TCU Theatre Faculty, Former Radio City Rockette). Students will receive special consideration in casting for Casa Mañana productions AND early access to masterclasses.

Auditions will be Saturday, August 13 at 10AM in the Studios Building.

Audition Schedule

9:40am – Check-in begins (Studios Lobby)
10:00am – Welcome and Group Dance Audition (Studio A)
10:45am – Individual Song/Monologue auditions (You will sing in the order you check in)
1:00pm (approx.) – Auditions Complete

Please arrive warmed up and dressed to dance.  Bring a prepared song and monologue (each no more than 90 seconds in length), demonstrating your skills and telling us a bit about you.  Sheet music should be prepared and in your key – a pianist will be provided.

If you are unable to attend the in-person audition August 13th but want to be considered for the Apprentice Class, please submit a link (unlisted YouTube or Google Drive) to a single video containing: your slate, a 1-2 minute example of your dance skills and a song and monologue (each no more than 90 seconds in length) Please email the link to education@casamanana.org with the subject line “APPRENTICE CLASS SUBMISSION” by Noon, August 13th.  We are unable to consider submissions received after Noon, August 13th. 

Students will be notified of results on or by Friday, August 19th.
