Rehearsals for Steel Magnolias began this week, and we are thrilled to welcome Beth Glover to the cast as “Clairee.”
Beth is thrilled to perform in Steel Magnolias and says, “When I moved to NYC a thousand years ago, Steel Magnolias was playing in the Village. I went downtown to see it and fell in love with the women and the story. Well, of course, I did! I’m from Mississippi! I had no idea it would take over 30 years to finally experience the play from the inside.”
On Clairee, she says, “[She] is the kind of Southern woman I’ve aspired to be. She is loving, kind, plain-spoken, and has a good sense of humor and an enormous zest for life.” She continues, “The play is about the beauty and strength in friendships (and more, of course). Each scene reveals a different facet, a different layer of relationships. Exploring it all with the cast is going to be glorious!”
When learning her role, Beth likes to imagine “everyone and everything in the play.” She notes that creating the world in her mind makes it enjoyable to learn her part.
Beth is no stranger to great style, “I’m an old pageant girl from the south, and I’ve had AMAZING hairdos. They may not look great now – but I loved them then.” On that note, her fictional beauty salon would be called “The Higher the Hair.” We think that’s apt!
Steel Magnolias runs July 23-31. Purchase tickets here: https://casamanana.org/events/steelmagnolias/.
