We are thrilled to welcome Tuan Malinowski to our Disney’s Newsies cast! Tuan stars as “Specs” in their Casa Mañana debut this June 4-12.
Tuan is a queer, non-binary Asian actor and creative living in New York City. Their most recent work includes industry readings of Siren and Luna and the Gold River Docs. Tuan’s credits include Peter Pan (Pittsburgh CLO), The Wizard of Oz (Kansas City Starlight Theatre) and Mamma Mia! (Flat Rock Playhouse), Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Disney’s The Little Mermaid (Flat Rock Playhouse), Peter Pan (Artpark), Ragtime, Peter Pan, Showboat (Utah Festival Opera & Musical Theatre) and Thoroughly Modern Millie (Cider Mill Playhouse).
As a graduate of Ithaca College and a member of the Actors’ Equity Association, Tuan is proudly represented by DGRW, Inc.
“As a creative, I was the chosen choreographer for New York Theatre Barn’s Choreography Lab, where I was mentored by Emmy-winning, Tony-nominated choreographer Joshua Bergasse.”
Their choreography credits include The SpongeBob Musical at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and a re-imagined Pippin at Weathervane Theatre. Other credits include Game On (Assistant Director/Assistant Choreographer; Pittsburgh CLO), Last Stop On Market Street (Assistant Director; Atlantic Theatre Company), Dog Man: The Musical (Assistant Director/Assistant Choreographer; TheaterWorks USA).
Tuan is thrilled for their first time in Disney’s Newsies, “I’ve never gotten to dance this much in a show, so that’s exciting!”
Their advice to their former self is very poignant, “You don’t have to do what everyone else is doing – or what you think you should be doing. Do what you want to be doing. Don’t wait around for someone else to give you opportunities. Make them for yourself.”
“I’ve learned everything about this art form and craft from several teachers, mentors, professors and friends. And, of course, the sole reason I’ve been able to have a career in this art form is my parents.”
