Our Department of Education accepts interns year-round for a variety of programs. Internships will vary based on the time of year. With over half a century of experience in theatre education, Casa Mañana Studios is proud to provide such an opportunity under one of the most recognized professional theatres in Texas.

Camp Casa Counselor

Camp Casa is a three-week summer camp for students ages 8-14. All experience and skill levels are welcomed. In addition to rehearsing and producing a full-length show, counselors will assist campers in taking acting, music, and dance classes.

Qualified interns are at least 18 years old, enrolled in an undergraduate program or have graduated in the past two years, and have experience working with youth and some understanding the theatrical environment at any level.

 Camp Counselor

– Receive a stipend of $250/session

– Work 8:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m., Monday-Friday

– Be present at all performances

– Serve as camp counselors and backstage crew during performances

– Obtain leadership roles as head counselors

– Oversee a team of counselors-in-training

– Learn about all aspects of theatre education

– Develop industry-level skills

Camp Casa Jr. Positions

Counselors and counselors in training will assist in the development of fundamental life skills in a fun, no-pressure environment.

Qualified interns for counselor roles are at least 18 years old, enrolled in an undergraduate program or have graduated in the past two years with experience working with youth and something understanding of the theatrical environment at any level. Qualified interns for counselors in training are enrolled in middle school or high school and interested in learning about theatre.

Please select ONE of the following internships:

 

Camp Counselor 

 Receive a stipend of $125/session

– Work 8:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., Monday-Friday (leading all three sessions is not required)

– Coordinate with instructors on class exercises, rehearsals and projects

– Assist with student drop off/pick up

– Learn about all aspects of theatre education

– Model professional behavior

– Be mentored by a wide array of theatre professionals

– Develop industry-level skills

 

Camp Counselor in Training (CIT)

– Work 8:30 a.m. – 1:00 p.m., M-F (Working all three sessions is not required)

– Coordinate with head counselors on class exercises, rehearsals and projects

– Learn more about theatre and team leadership

– Assist with student drop off/pick up

– Model professional behavior

– Be mentored by a wide array of theatre professionals

– Develop industry-level skills

Production Internships

Interns will work with theatre professionals in their desired department during the rehearsal process and serve as the backstage crew during performances. Applicants must be 16 years of age or older and available for the dates below, as well as additional evenings, weekends, and call times, as necessary. Must have reliable transportation to and from the theatre. This is an unpaid position but may count for school credit.

Production Interns may apply to work one or all of these productions:

Disney’s Newsies the Musical (May 23 – June 12), Camp Casa: Madagascar Jr. (June 20 – July 10), Steel Magnolias (July 11-31), Apprentice Program: Bat Boy: The Musical (July 18 – August 7)

Costume/Wardrobe Department

Will assist with the day-to-day running of the shop with duties that may include: costume fittings, labeling costumes, light hand sewing, ironing and steaming, and dressing actors during performances. 

Qualifications 

  • Applicants should be detail-oriented and organized, have computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite and internet browsers
  • Experience with and enthusiasm for working with youth is preferred
Stage Management Department

Will work directly with an Equity Production Stage Manager as Assistant Stage Managers, and under the supervision of the Education Department.   

Qualifications: 

  • Experience working with Microsoft Office Suite a plus
  • Previous stage management or backstage experience is preferred. Previous experience working with young children (ages 8-14) is a plus
Lighting/Electrics Department

Will work with the Production Team on pre-production duties such as hanging and programming lights and may also be utilized during performances.   

Qualifications 

  • Must be able to lift up to 50lbs 
  • Must be comfortable with working in high spaces on a lift and/or ladder 
  • Basic programming and lighting knowledge is preferred but not required 
Sound
Department

Will work with the production team on locating and programming sound cues, helping younger students with microphones during performances, and other duties as assigned

Qualifications 

  • Previous audio experience is preferred
