The Casa Playaz troupe, developed to reach elementary school students within NAP communities, provides a general understanding and appreciation of musical theatre while instilling the notion that the art form is accessible, memorable and relevant. Comprised of four professional actors, The Casa Playaz not only entertains students but also addresses the essential arts requirements of the Texas Essential Knowledge and Skills (TEKS) curriculum, which helps prepare students for the Texas Assessment of Knowledge and Skills (TAKS).
The Casa Playaz presents an all-new production, integrating performing arts with literature, social studies and history related to the TEKS. This new production centers on a fable or fairy tale from a great piece of literature presented in the African, Asian, Latino/South American and Native American cultures. The Casa Playaz produce and creatively tailor performances to students' interests and ever-changing lexicon by applying references to which the students can identify. An optional, post-performance information session includes explanations of potential careers in theatre as well as musical theatre’s role in today’s society.
The Casa Playaz perform to select schools in the Fort Worth ISD. For more information, including availability and fees, email Joe Sturgeon, Director of Theatre for Youth, or call 817.321.5017.
